Who is UFC welterweight debutant Louis Cosce?
Dana White’s Contender Series alum Louis Cosce is set to make his Octagon debut this weekend at UFC 255, a fight that sees him as the second-biggest betting favorite (-400) behind women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko (-2000).
Prior to being signed by the UFC, Cosce ran off to a 5-0 start before being given a shot on a Combate Americas show in Stockton, CA. Cosce knocked his opponent out in just 18 seconds, which was followed by a call to appear on DWCS.
Cosce (7-0) is one of two undefeated fighters stepping into the cage this weekend. The 25-year-old was signed to the UFC following his dominant victory on Dana White’s Contender Series back in August. Cosce defeated opponent Victor Reyna via first-round TKO, a performance that certainly caught the eye of boss Dana White.
Cosce fought that night on the same card as his older brother Orion, who was also victorious after a stoppage win over Matt Dixon. Orion was also set to make his promotional debut at UFC 255 against Nicolas Dalby, but was forced off the card due to undisclosed reasons. He will be replaced by Daniel Rodriguez.
None of Cosce’s seven professional bouts have gone past the first round, but his opponent this weekend could change that stat line.
Who will Louis Cosce take on at UFC 255?
Cosce will be taking on fellow welterweight Sasha Palatnikov in his promotional debut. Palatnikov (5-2) is coming into this bout less than two months removed from his first-round TKO victory at UAE Warriors 13 in Abu Dhabi. While both fighters have seven professional fights under their belt, Cosce holds the advantage in wins, record, and finishes. Cosce has won all 7 of his fights via stoppage, five via KO/TKO and two via submission.
Palatnikov, who will be representing Hong Kong this weekend, suffered his last loss in 2019 to current UFC welterweight Mounir Lazzez. Palatnikov will also be the first fighter to rep the flag of Hong Kong into the Octagon. Palatnikov moved to the States about a year ago and has since been training at Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas.
