BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty flooded with praise for taking guest ‘to cleaners’ in tense interview

Naga Munchetty has been flooded with praise over shutting down a guest on Friday’s show. BBC Breakfast viewers praised Naga and Charlie Stayt for their handling of the Energy Minister on August 25.

Naga was interviewing Tory party member Andrew Bowie on the price cap as Ofgem unveiled its changes. Mr Bowieclaimed this is a “positive day” as the price cap is now falling.

He said: “I wasn’t telling you about what the government is doing Naga, I was telling you what the situation is.” But Naga shot back: “You were. You were telling me that inflation is coming down and that your plan is working, but I asked you if you think the new price is affordable.”

Nagaasked: “Do you think it’s affordable?” Mr Bowie responded: “As I said, it’s heading in the right direction. It’s more affordable now than it has been at any point.” Twitter user Kenneth tweeted: “Naga Munchetty taking Andrew Bowie to the cleaners over energy bills. Lovely stuff. #bbcbreakfast.”

Pat said: “Well done Naga @BBCBreakfast How dare the Energy Minister, Bowie, arrogantly tell her how the BBC should present the energy prices in a “positive light” and be “focusing” on reduced energy prices rather than increased standing charges!” Jo Purvis wrote: “Andrew Bowie feels BBCBreakfast should be positively presenting government view on energy pricing. Good to see his shiny brow while Naga points out it is her ‘job to put the views of the public to ministers and try to elicit an answer’, in this case on affordability.”
