Ianis Hagi AXED from Rangers’ Champions League squad as Michael Beale makes two huge decisions ahead of PSV showdown

IANIS HAGI has been dramatically axed from Rangers’ Champions League squad in a big call by Michael Beale.

The Ibrox boss has made two huge decisions ahead of the play-off showdown with PSV Eindhoven.

Hagi, who only spoke about his desire to play more football at the weekend, is one of two big names dropped from the squad named for the Servette double-header.

Defender Ridvan Yilmaz, who has been out injured, is the other star who doesn’t make the cut this time around.

Many Gers fans had been debating whether or not striker Kemar Roofe should be added to the European squad for the PSV double-header.

However, he is NOT one of the two stars brought in by Beale.

It’s Rabbi Matondo and Ben Davies who are in the group this time around.

Matondo has played himself back into Beale’s plans after a couple of good performances.

He brought a much needed injection of pace and directness from the bench in the Gers’ 4-0 win over Livingston a week past Saturday, and was the side’s top performer in Saturday’s 2-1 cup victory over Morton.

Defender Davies, who’s been heavily linked with an exit from Ibrox this summer, returns to the fold after injury problems of his own.

He’s yet to feature at all this season.

Despite making eight changes for the clash with the Ton, Hagi wasn’t handed a start on Saturday.

He did, however, come off the bench in the second-half.

Speaking after the match, the 24-year old admitted he was frustrated about his lack of game time.

Regarding talks with his manager regarding his playing time, Hagi said: “I can’t get into private conversations.

“I think the most important thing is that I just want to play football because that’s what I love.

“I have always looked for my happiness and my happiness stays in playing football and being with my loved ones.

“I’m a simple guy. I love to stay with my loved ones and this is my passion, I want to play football. That makes me happy.

“Everybody wants to play football, especially when you’re at a club like this.

“I’m obviously disappointed by the situation but I respect the gaffer’s decisions.

“That doesn’t mean I agree with them but I respect them — he is manager of this club.

“I train at 100 per cent on a daily basis. I’ve come back from a one-year injury.

“But they know who I am and know my history at this football club, what I’ve done here before. Now I just want to play.”
