Liverpool fan brands club a ‘laughing stock’ for Moises Caicedo debacle as ex-sporting director Michael Edwards trends

One Liverpool fan has branded the club as ‘a laughing stock’ as Michael Edwards’ name trends on social media.

The Reds have endured a difficult week in the transfer market with Jurgen Klopp’s side set to miss out on the signing of Chelsea-bound Moises Caicedo.

The Brighton star is heading to Stamford Bridge for a fee of £115million, despite Liverpool agreeing the same fee, due to the player preferring a move to west London.

As well as missing out on the 21-year-old starlet, Liverpool also run the risk of failing to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, who is also being targeted by Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Liverpool are desperate to sign a deep-lying midfielder, but have been left frustrated with fans on social media reminiscing about former sporting director, Edwards.

Edwards was responsible for signing players such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson Becker, leading to messages such as “bring back Michael Edwards”, “I miss Michael Edwards” and “this would never have happened had Michael Edwards been around” being circulated.

That was the sentiment of one more supporter called Gary too as he called talkSPORT to lash out at the club’s transfer efforts following the 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

Speaking to Ally McCoist and Andy Townsend on talkSPORT Breakfast about the Chelsea clash, Gary said: “I thought we were lucky.

“We played well in the first half, we were brilliant. Mac Allister was very quiet but I just don’t get why we were chasing a player [Caicedo] who didn’t want to come to Liverpool.

“We then went after Lavia and wouldn’t pay the £50million that they were asking for and then offer £115million for a player who doesn’t even want to come to Liverpool.

“We’re a laughing stock! They should have pulled out straight away and gone, ‘yeah fair enough, we’ll go for Lavia’ but now we’ve got to pay an extra £10million to beat Chelsea.”
