The 77-year-old veteran had been the voice of the Premier League for decades.

However, fans were quick to hail the new man Drury as he stepped into the booth for the first time in his new role as Chelsea took on Liverpool on Sky Sports’ Super Sunday this afternoon.

“Martin Tyler to Peter Drury is the biggest upgrade ever,” declared one.

Another said that the new boy was “the bees knees” while a fellow fan tweeted: “Peter Drury is wonderful on the ears.

“Well done @SkySports he’s a cracking addition.”

“Peter Drury on sky sports just feels right,” read another tweet, with another saying: “Sky have pulled a masterstroke with Peter Drury on commentary.”

However, although many were enjoying Drury’s commentary, some were still longing for Tyler.

One tweet read: “Peter Drury is a top commentator, but today is the day we realise Sundays aren’t so Super without Martin Tyler.”
