Ange Postecoglou won’t play FPL for the first time in 20 years this season, he’s actually ‘gutted’

For the first time in 20 years, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will not join his mates’ Fantasy Premier League group – and he’s genuinely “gutted’ about it.

Postecoglou left his role at Scottish Premiership champions Celtic this summer to become the first Australian manager in Premier League history.

The 57-year-old, who was Australia’s senior national team manager from 2013 to 2017, has made a great impression on the Tottenham fan base thus far.

He’s not only promised to create “an environment that embodies the values and traditions of this fantastic football club” but he has assured fans that he’d leave “no stone unturned” ahead of their league opener against Brentford.

But with all the positives that come with joining a club like Spurs, there is one big negative; he won’t be able to play Fantasy Premier League in the coming months.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s game, former Brisbane Roar boss Postecoglou opened up on the FPL news.

“I’ve got a few friends coming to the match. It’s fair to say I’ve been inundated for tickets but it’s great because they’ve been along for the journey,” he said.

“We all had those dreams and we’re all living it together because for me they’re just part of it as well because I wouldn’t be sitting here today without them.

“They’re all going to be here and for the first time in I reckon 20 years I’ve had to pull out of our fantasy Premier League group as well which I’m gutted about and if they try to grill me for information they’re getting nothing out of me.

“I don’t need to play now because I am a Premier League manager. There you go, it’s not a fantasy anymore!”

And to think; if he did join the Fantasy Premier League ranks this season, then he could have created the best FPL name in recent memory –– ‘Haven’t got a Postecoglou’.

Postecoglou impressed fans further during this week’s press conference, when he responded to a question about Harry Kane failing to win anything at Spurs.

“I think that’s a little bit unfair on Harry as well,” he said. “They’ve got close a couple of times but that’s the reality of this business that until you lift the trophy, that kind of thing is always sort of branded against you.

“That doesn’t diminish his contribution and I think it’s only fair that on a day like today that our supporters do have a sense of mourning and less because irrespective of the lack of success at the club he has been a hero to them and he will continue to be so.

“Again him going doesn’t change my vision of what I’m trying to bring to this football club.

“It’s fairly obvious that a club of this stature has to find a way to win things. I think you can do that in many different ways. I have a very specific way of trying to bring success to a football club and that is playing the game a certain way.”

“He added: “That is what I’m going to focus on and that’s all I’ve ever done in my career is to get my teams to play in a certain way because I know it brings success and that’s my challenge here as well.

“Hopefully moving forward, not just the fans but the players and everyone involved at this football club will see that the road we’ve embarked on will give us the opportunity for success because it’s all you can do.

“You can try to put yourself up here to try to be successful. Nothing is guaranteed but we want to be in a position where we can bring success to this football club.”
