Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro have broken up and called off their engagement, sources confirmed to People on July 25, 2023. “Sources say that despite the love and respect the singers have for one another, they have both agreed to end their engagement,” the publication reported.

News of Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro’s split comes just four months after the release of their first-ever joint music project, a three-song EP titled RR. The project was fronted by the track “Beso,” released alongside a music video that collated memories from their three-year relationship and which also served as a soft launch for their engagement.

Shortly after the release of RR, the Motomami and Saturno singers joined forces at Coachella 2023 to perform both “Beso” and “Vampiros” together for the first time.

Even when Rauw was not able to join her on stage, the Spanish singer frequently found a way to dedicate a few words to her then-partner on stage during her Motomami tour, which she recently wrapped up at Lollapalooza Paris.

Aside from the ring, Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro had made their commitment to each other crystal clear with a series of tattoos. Rosalía unveiled her “RR” ink a few years ago, later confirming it was a nod to her and Rauw’s relationship on Spanish TV. Rauw, on the other hand, has Rosalía’s name forever inked on his lower stomach alongside some roses.

Following reports of their breakup, speculation ran rampant. Though neither Rosalía, whose representatives had no comment for Teen Vogue, nor Rauw Alejandro publicly addressed the rumors at first, they both issued statements hours later on each of their social media accounts.

On July 26, Rauw was the first to post a statement to both his Instagram Stories and Twitter account addressing the commentary. “I never thought I’d see myself in a position where I’d even think of making a public statement on a matter that is so private to me,” the singer wrote in Spanish. “Yes, [Rosalía] and I ended our engagement a few months ago. There are thousands of problems that can cause a breakup, but in our case, it was not because of third parties or infidelity.”

Rauw closed off his message, which was meant with some incredulity, asking fans to respect both his and Rosalía’s privacy, as well as their families, and added why he chose to speak up: “I could not remain silent and continue to watch as people try to destroy the most real love story God has allowed me to live.”

Rosalía followed up on Rauw’s message on July 27, posting her own message to her Instagram Stories. “I love, respect, and admire Raúl so much,” the singer wrote, also in Spanish. “Don’t pay attention to made-up stories, we know what we have lived. This is not an easy moment, so thank you, everyone, for the understanding and respect.” On July 25, the Spaniard had also posted a cryptic message to Instagram stories that read, “My heart is an archive of things I’ve loved.”
