BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – Good Wednesday morning! It is a very cold start to the day with temperatures in the 30s across Central Alabama. We have freeze warnings for most of Central Alabama and frost advisories for areas south and west of Birmingham this morning until 8 AM. Frosty conditions are possible this morning due to the cold temperatures. Winds are light this morning, so we don’t have to deal with a wind chill. First Alert AccuTrack is showing a clear sky across Alabama and the entire Southeast thanks to high pressure giving us dry air and quiet conditions. Plan for plenty of sunshine this afternoon with temperatures warming up into the low to mid 60s. It will not be as breezy this afternoon with northeast winds at 5-10 mph.
First Alert for Chilly Temperatures Thursday Morning: With light winds and a clear sky, temperatures are forecast to drop quickly tonight. We’ll likely wake up with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 30s. There’s still a chance we could see a little frost in some spots tomorrow morning. Just sending another reminder to protect your plants and to bring your pets inside. We should see plenty of sunshine Thursday with high temperatures climbing into the mid 60s.

Next Big Thing: The next big thing is the gradual warm-up expected by this weekend. Temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 60s Friday afternoon. I think we’ll see temperatures above average this weekend with highs in the lower 70s. Our average high temperature for mid-to-late November is 65°F. Morning temperatures are also expected to warm into the 40s and 50s by this weekend. Humidity levels will slowly increase Saturday and Sunday giving way to extra cloud cover. I think we’ll stay dry for most of the weekend.
Rain Chances Return Early Next Week: There’s a chance we could see a few disturbances move through Central Alabama early next week. The first disturbance could produce showers across our area late Sunday night into Monday morning. A cold front is forecast to move through our area providing us cooler temperatures Monday afternoon. Highs could drop back to the mid 60s. We could see another system produce showers across our area next Wednesday, but the timing and intensity of this system remains questionable this far out in time.
Tropical Update: Iota is now a tropical depression with winds around 35 mph. The center of the storm is located across El Salvador and is forecast to move into the Pacific Ocean and dissipate. Iota continues to produce heavy rain and flooding conditions across Central America. Besides Iota, the rest of the Atlantic remains fairly quiet. The National Hurricane Center is highlighting a low chance for something to develop in the southwestern Caribbean over the next five days. The National Hurricane Center is also watching a potential disturbance that could develop northeast of the Bahamas in the Atlantic over the next five days. They are also giving this disturbance a low chance to develop into a tropical depression or storm. Both disturbances should stay away from the United States.
