Isolated showers on Tuesday before storm chances arrive late week — Here’s what to expect

4Warn Weather – Good Tuesday and welcome to August!

We ended the month of July on Monday on a dry note for most, but a few of us saw a little bit of rain, and I am expecting much of the same on Tuesday.

We’re also keeping an eye Tuesday on another round of wildfire smoke moving into the region from Canada. Our short term near-surface smoke data is showing smoke for a good portion of the Great Lakes and into the Ohio Valley on Tuesday.

So, while we’ll see a mixture of sunshine and clouds, any sunshine today should be a hazy.

We’re expecting an isolated rain shower or two Tuesday afternoon and evening, although most everyone will stay dry.

High temperatures will be in the lower 80s. Humidity will stay in check, too. Outside of the few rain showers, it’ll be a comfortable day for everyone.

Mostly sunny Wednesday

We’re expecting plenty of sunshine on Wednesday with highs in the lower 80s.

An isolated shower or two are possible again in the afternoon and evening hours. Cloud cover will stick around through the night into Thursday.

Rain, storm chances Thursday

Our next widespread chance of rain moves into the region Thursday, bringing more humidity, too. Highs will be in the upper 80s.

We have a chance of showers and a few thunderstorms on Thursday, likely in the evening hours. A cold front will move in Thursday night.

Cloudy with drier weather

It’ll be drier on Friday with mostly cloudy skies. Our region will be at the edge of a system moving south of us, so there may be a bit of moisture in the air.

Highs will be in the mid-80s.

Saturday will also be mostly cloudy, but with drier conditions. Highs will be in the low 80s.

We’ll see another chance of showers and storms move in on Sunday.

August outlook

The Climate Prediction Center’s one-month outlook for August doesn’t show anything major for Southeast Michigan.

The official forecast calls for near average chances for precipitation and for temperatures.

After ending July with well over 5 inches of rain in Detroit, which was above average, we may have somewhat of a calmer month ahead in the weather department.

Elsewhere …

Nationally for Tuesday, excessive heat continues to dominate the Midwest with heat advisories and warnings in effect for much of the plains down into Texas, and into Louisiana and Mississippi. Some stronger thunderstorms are possible over the upper-Midwest, from Denver over to St. Louis, also over the Carolinas down to Jacksonville, then up in the Dakotas.
