Square Enix is expanding Final Fantasy 14’s much-beloved free trial.
Director and producer Naoki Yoshida reveals at Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest that, once update 6.5 rolls around later this year, the free trial will include the Stormblood expansion, which follows Heavensward and comes before Shadowbringers.
At the time of writing, the current free trial allows you to level up as many characters as you’d like up to level 60 with no restrictions on playtime. Once the free trial extends to Stormblood, though, you’ll be levelling all the way to 70, all with, yes, no restrictions on playtime.
Square Enix has also announced that Final Fantasy 14 is coming to Xbox early next year, with beta testing due to begin with patch 6.5, which releases this year. You’re getting 4K support for the Xbox Series X|S, though the MMO will only be available digitally.
That also means that Final Fantasy 14’s free trial is coming to Xbox users, too. If you like what you play for the MMO, you can commit to a subscription and plough through Shadowbringers and Endwalker before Dawntrail releases next summer, and get all the jobs you fancy levelled up to 70.
Alongside the name and release window, Square Enix has also revealed that the new expansion takes us to Tural to sort out a succession conflict. It’s not all serious, though, as Yoshi-P wants this to feel like a cracking summer vacation.
Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail adds two new DPS jobs, and Yoshi-P might be baiting us over what they are.
