BBC commentator Andrew Castle came under fire from viewers as he remarked on the age and appearance of those sitting in the Royal Box at Wimbledon for the men’s singles final.

As Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz took a break, the camera panned to the box where Brad Pitt was sitting.

The actor was seen sipping on a drink as Andrew remarked: “How does he look that good, that guy Brad Pitt.

“59 years old. Senior figure of the American entertainment industry.

“This is an entertainment, and this is a great show. The stage is Centre Court at Wimbledon.”

Those tuning into the coverage were quick to moan about Andrew’s remarks with some claiming he was “obsessed” with the age of those in the box.

@EkramNasrul shared: “What’s with the Wimbledon commentator’s obsession with Brad Pitt’s age and how “youthful” he looks despite it LOL.”

@MrsAstronaut tweeted: “Brad Pitt is at Wimbledon and he is as sexy as ever at the age of 59.”

@BertDalziel continued: “The bbc should not do so-called ‘tennis coverage’ but instead should dedicate itself to contemplating things Brad Pitt is older and younger than.”

@AlecB19 asked: “Anyone up for a drinking game every time Andrew Castle talks about someone’s age? #WimbledonFinal #wimbledon2023 #Wimbledon.”

The BBC Sport Twitter account also made a dig at Brad Pitt as they posted a photo of the actor with the caption: “Brad Pitt is three years older than Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz combined.”

Fans were quick to question why Brad’s age was important when the men’s final was going on.

“Today, in Completely Irrelevant section…”posted @igrali.

@Baryonyx77 simply posted: “Groundbreaking journalism,” while @nemisixx asked: “What was the need of this stat.”

@BenC_91 mocked: “Great maths there by the BBC. Well done.”

@Solar7Music asked: “Slow news day?” as @Jonathan_XileF questioned: “Yo what did Brad Pitt do to you guys?!”

Wimbledon is available to catch up on BBC iPlayer now.
