Sky Sports F1 reporter Martin Brundle was shut down by supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne at the British Grand Prix during his pre-race grid walk as her security team argued with the racing icon. Brundle repeatedly told those on the grid that they now have to speak to the broadcaster, but Delevingne opted against it before he was hurried along.
Brundle asked for a word with Delevingne to get her thoughts on the race, but was shut down by her security team as she told him “I can’t hear anything I’m so sorry” before Brundle moved on to the other celebrities on the track.
The reporter later explained that Lewis Hamilton had previously informed him that he does not want to speak before a race as he is busy preparing, something that Brundle honoured but celebrities are not afforded the same courtesy.
Afterwards, Brundle sarcastically said “I’m sure it would have been extremely interesting” in regard to Delevingne’s thoughts on the British GP, but he was not able to get past her security – while the likes of Pep Guardiola and Liam Payne did give their insights.
Viewers were largely on Brundle’s side, though it was not his first brush with a celebrity that did not want to speak with him. Many F1 fans felt that Delevingne should have spoken to Sky Sports.
On Twitter, @emmassimpson wrote: “Cara Delevingne BOOO YOUU if you’re on the grid you talk to Martin Brundle that’s it” while her sentiments were echoed by @howdichilli who tweeted: “cara delevingne you’re not above martin brundle and the grid walk.”
Sam Ryder, Britain’s previous Eurovision Song Contest entrant, had the opposite reaction to Delevingne and was over the moon to see Brundle as the pair shared a big hug.
While Manchester City boss Guardiola could not believe that the grid walk existed and shut down the possibility of a similar event taking place before a big Premier League match. “It’s crazy for the drivers,” Guardiola told Brundle. “Before to drive at these speeds, to be here with so many people it’s crazy. But it’s part of the show.”
Earlier, Brundle caught up with Sir Jackie Stewart as he was able to arrange an interview with Roger Federer in May – but this time around there was not the repeated success that Brundle was asking for.
