Checo Perez ended his terrible streak in the 2023 Formula 1 season when he got on the podium at the Austrian Grand Prix, but not all the weekend was as rosy for the Mexican.

During the Sprint race, there was an incident with Max Verstappen that could have ended badly.

Fortunately, the Mexican and Dutchman didn’t collide, but both drivers were angry and now, the team’s advisor Helmut Marko has spoken about what happened inside the team.

On the Mexican’s recovery drive from 15th to third in Sunday’s race, Marko was full of praise.

“He did great, he made the overtakes and got his confidence back and he’s increased his lead over Fernando Alonso in the championship,” Marko said, speaking to Sky Germany.

“He didn’t see Max in the sprint, but he apologized to him, it’s okay.”

For the time being, the atmosphere at Red Bull is calm again, and the pressure has lifted for Checo.

He cannot realistically catch his teammate and two-time F1 champion, leaving the Mexican concentrating on beating Fernando Alonso in the fight for second place.

This weekend, from July 7 to 9, the British Grand Prix will be held at Silverstone, where the rivalry between the two Red Bull drivers will be continued, as well as the fight for second place between Perez and Alonso, which has the Mexican with 148 points and the Spaniard with 131.

The race for the runner-up position between the Red Bull and the Aston Martin driver is the most attractive of the 2023 Formula 1 season.
