LIVINGSTON COUNTY — On Saturday, June 24, officers from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of an aircraft emergency at the Spencer J. Hardy Airport near Tooley Rd and M-59.
According to a press release, the pilot, a 39-year-old Brighton man, and his passenger, a 36-year-old Perry woman, said the plane lost power while flying a normal pattern.
The pilot managed to land the plane in a grassy area of the airport property. It crashed through markers for the runway, which caused a wing, a piece of landing gear and hood of the aircraft to break off.
The pilot and passenger were able to get out of the plane on their own and neither reported any injuries.
Officers were assisted by the Howell Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.
The scene was turned over to a representative from the Federal Aviation Administration.
