Dodgers News: Max Muncy Not Dealing With Grade 2 Hamstring Strain, Contrary to Dave Roberts’ Statement

There seems to have been a mix up at Dodger Stadium on Wednesday. When Dave Roberts spoke to reporters about his injured third baseman, he said that Max Muncy was dealing with a “Grade 2 strain” in his hamstring. However, he also said Muncy would not be going on the injured list, which didn’t make much sense considering Grade 2 hamstring strains would take over a month to heal.

On Thursday, Muncy joined the Foul Territory podcast, and clarified the injury. He said he’s not dealing with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, and is instead dealing with something much lower. That’s why he wasn’t placed on the injured list, and also why the Dodgers are hoping he returns to the field this weekend against the Giants.

“I think there was a goof with the media yesterday,” Muncy said. “It’s not a Grade 2. It’s just a low grade. …

“If it was a Grade 2, you’re looking at a month, two months. Thankfully that’s not what I’m looking at right now.”

Roberts did say Grade 2 strain to the reporters, so the mistake is obviously on him. But fortunately, that’s not the case, which is why Muncy could be nearing a return.

Muncy did say he’s not yet sure when he’ll be back in the Dodgers lineup, but on Wednesday, Roberts said he was hoping for Saturday.

We’ll see how Muncy heals over the next few days, and then hopefully have a better sense of when the power-hitter will return to the Dodgers lineup.

If he’s not better by Saturday, Roberts said the team could be in a position to put him on the injured list. But fortunately, Muncy didn’t seem so worried about it, which should mean he’s back sooner rather than later.

On the year, Muncy is hitting .191 with 18 home runs, 45 runs batted in and an OPS of .797.
