The late former NBA commissioner David Stern has been trending some on Twitter Sunday, thanks to the latest controversy surrounding Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.

Morant, who was suspended late in the regular season after he brandished a gun on Instagram Live, has now been suspended again by the Grizzlies for…brandishing a gun on Instagram Live.

Stern, who passed away in 2020, served as commissioner from 1984-2014 and was known as more of a disciplinarian than his successor, Adam Silver.

As a result, there have been plenty of social media mentions of Stern and how he would have handled Morant.

“Ja Morant flashing a gun on Instagram live. Dude doesn’t learn, David Stern would [have] never let him slide the first time,” said a Nets fan.

“David Stern woulda had 6 black SUVs outside Ja house this morning,” another fan said.

“Damn Ja would’ve been on his best behavior if he played in the NBA during the David Stern era,” said a third person.

“David Stern gonna give this dude an 82-game suspension from the underworld,” added former SB Nation writer Kyle Robbins.

“They sent that man to rehab for this. David Stern is looking up in DISGUST at what his league has become,” a fifth person chimed in.

Morant’s suspension from team activities was instituted by the Grizzlies on Sunday.

We’ll see if Silver and the league have any additional punishment for the All-Star guard.
