Line of Duty fans are going to love new Amazon Prime thriller The Rig

The Bodyguard #TheBodyguard

If, like us, you’ve always struggled to fill the colossal hole left in your TV life when The Bodyguard ended back in 2018, we’ve got good news for you; the director behind The Bodyguard and Line of Duty has announced his next show. The tense thriller, named The Rig, will air on Amazon Prime soon. Here’s everything we know about the series.

What is The Rig going to be about?

The six-part series is set aboard the Kishorn Bravo oil rig, stationed off the Scottish Coast in the turbulent waters of the North Sea, and follows the dramatic story of the rig’s isolated crew.

The official series synopsis says, “When the crew are due to return to the mainland, a mysterious and all-enveloping fog rolls through and they find themselves cut off from all communication with the shore and the outside world.

“As they endeavour to discover what’s driving this force, bonds are broken, allegiances formed and generational fault lines exposed. The crew of the Bravo will be driven to the limits of both their loyalties and their endurance, into a confrontation with forces beyond their imagination.”

Who has been cast in The Rig?

We don’t have any definite names yet, but according to Deadline the series’ cast is currently being confirmed. The good news is that the team behind the series is full of TV big-hitters. Line of Duty’s John Strickland not only directs but is also executive producing alongside Human’s Derek Wax. Plus, Fleabag’s Kelly Valentine-Hendry will act as casting director on the project, and since she led the casting for Broadchurch and The Rig is set in Scotland, we’re crossing our fingers for a David Tennant casting. Dreams can come true, after all.

Do we have a trailer and release date for The Rig?

Sadly, we don’t have either of these things, but with everything we know about this six-part Amazon Original, it sounds good enough to wait for.
