Dodgers Rumors: MLB Insider Adds Fuel to the Fire on Tim Anderson to LA Talks
Tim Anderson #TimAnderson
One of the mostly highly talked about trade rumors this year involves the Dodgers and the White Sox. The White Sox, who have struggled all year long, could turn their team into a fire sale come the trade deadline, and the Dodgers would be the first ones at their doorstep looking for talent.
The most talked about potential deal is one involving All-Star shortstop Tim Anderson, someone who loved playing alongside Mookie Betts at the World Baseball Classic and who could add tons of power and electricity in the Dodgers lineup.
As May comes to a close, MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic decided to add a little more fuel to the fire in the Anderson to LA talks, but also made it clear that we have a long way to go until any of that happens. Here’s a part of what he wrote about the potential move.
“On the latest installment of The Athletic’s “Starkville” podcast, I mentioned that White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson “looks like a Dodger to me.” My inference was that Anderson makes sense as a logical trade target for the Dodgers, but on second thought, I might have spoken too soon.First, the slew of injuries to the Dodgers’ starting rotation might make them more inclined to focus their trade discussions on a starting pitcher. In addition, Anderson isn’t necessarily an ideal fit. His defensive metrics the past two seasons have been poor, with injuries perhaps contributing to his decline, and he rarely walks. …
“Ultimately, the Dodgers might want him as part of a package from the White Sox. Anderson and Cease, perhaps? Anderson and Liam Hendriks?
“Check back in 10 weeks.”
The last thing he says is the one that jumps out to me the most. The Dodgers may not be inclined to just make a trade for a shortstop, as they will likely have greater needs come the deadline.
The starting rotation has taken quite a hit this past week, and RHP Dustin May now won’t be back until after the All-Star break at the earliest. While the Dodgers do have Bobby Miller and Gavin Stone giving them innings right now, they could be inclined to make a big deal — similar to the Max Scherzer/Trea Turner trade — acquiring a shortstop and another key player.
Rosenthal highlights White Sox RHP Dylan Cease, who’s struggling this season after finishing second in AL Cy Young voting last season. He also mentioned RHP Liam Hendriks — who recovered from non-Hodgkins lymphoma and is close to making a return to the field — as a potential target. Either would be a huge boost to the Dodgers come the end of the year and the postseason.
Either way, Rosenthal made it clear that the Dodgers will likely be in the market for Anderson, and could look to make a larger blockbuster trade as an all-in move this season. That should have Dodger fans excited for the next few months.
