The driver of a U-Haul truck was arrested after leading a 95 mph pursuit along I-395 in Alexandria overnight, authorities said.
A Virginia State Trooper who saw the truck initiated a traffic stop around 2:30 a.m., but the driver refused, and sped away taking Exit 3 for Duke Street, Virginia State Police said.
The U-Haul continued through Alexandria in a reckless manner speeding up and slowing down until it returned to I-395 heading south. The U-Haul then pulled off onto the shoulder near the Alexandria and Fairfax County line.
The driver refused the troopers’ commands to exit the vehicle. Within a few minutes, a woman and juvenile exited the U-Haul, but the male driver still refused to get out. Troopers continued to talking to the driver urging him to safely exit the vehicle.
The troopers approached the U-Haul and detained the driver.
None of the three in the vehicle reported any injuries. The driver was transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
The incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
