Black Mirror sends fans into a meltdown as show breaks its silence after four-year hiatus

Netflix fans have gone wild as Black Mirror made an unexpected return to Twitter on Tuesday.

The popular Netflix anthology series has been silent on social media for four years but made a surprise return when they posted: “What have we missed?”

The show’s creator Charlie Brooker, also chipped in with Black Mirror’s return, replying to the Tweet with a quizzical face emoji and fans are now convinced this was a hint that the show could return soon.

Netflix was one of the first to respond as they joked: “Scientists are still creating robots that slowly harness more and more advanced AI like they haven’t watched a single episode of your show.”

Fans went crazy in the comment section as they probed the show for more information underneath the surprise Tweet.

One thrilled fan @Rosskiernan_ said: “I’m so ready for a new season.”

With another @AnnieMcCarren stated: “Stop playing with our emotions Black Mirror”.

“If u not coming back w the new season, GO HOME,” @weatherrgirl wrote.

Meanwhile, other fans joked that there was no need for a new season after they claimed that they had been “living through” a real-life episode following events of the past four years 

@MechaAO joked: “Someone’s been making IRL Black Mirror episodes around the world without you.” [sic]

In reply to what they have missed @OnlyInDevon added: “Put it this way, I’ve had moments when I’ve been pretty convinced we’ve all been living through a live action episode these past 4 years…”

And @marqEmarq suggested: “The next Black Mirror season 6 trailer should just be news/video clips of the past 3 years and end with “Thanks for Watching. Season 7 coming soon.”

It was feared that the fifth season of the hit show would be the last when creator Charlie Brooker and creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company, House of Tomorrow, in 2020 to set up a new one called Broke and Bones.

When they left House of Tomorrow, they also waved goodbye to the rights to Black Mirror to parent company Endemol Shine Group, which was later acquired by Banijay Group in the summer of 2020.

This meant that Brooker and Jones could not make any more seasons of the show with Netflix until a deal could be agreed, leaving many fans worried that it would be the end of Black Mirror altogether.

However, it appears a deal could have potentially been made after the show’s dramatic return to Twitter this week.
