The Green Bay Packers will have a new look this season with someone other than Aaron Rodgers at quarterback for the first time since 2008.
While most Packers players and fans would shy away from considering this season a rebuild, Pro Bowl offensive tackle David Bakhtiari doesn’t think “rebuild” is necessarily a bad word.
On the “Open Mike” podcast posted during the weekend, Bakhtiari told host Mike Silver that “moving on from a Hall of Fame quarterback” is obviously a major step for the storied franchise.
From NFL plays to college sports scores, all the top sports news you need to know every day.
“I literally today talked to Jordan (Love) about this,” Bakhtiari said regarding Rodgers’ heir apparent. “I’m like, ‘The Packers rebuilt from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers.’ What are we going to say? It’s not a rebuild? Like, that is what that is. And that’s totally fine.
“I’m not saying that we’re going to be bad. I’m not saying we’re going to be good. I don’t know and that’s the beauty. No one really knows how good they are. We start the season, everyone is batting 1.000. No one has any losses. No one has any wins. And let the season play out however it may be.”

The Packers front office on Monday reached a deal to trade Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, who has been their starter for the past 15 seasons, to the New York Jets.
Bakhtiari acknowledged there may be growing pains with Love – a third-year pro with 10 games of NFL experience and only one start under his belt – taking over, similar to what Rodgers experienced.
“His first year what did he go, like 6-10, I want to say,” Bakhtiari said. “There’s still a transition period in that. Like, you have to build your team.”
Bakhtiari added that while others might not expect much from the Packers this season, the players and coaches are focusing on what they can control.
Green Bay is coming off an 8-9 season and a third-place finish in the NFC North last season, missing the playoffs for the first time in four years under head coach Matt LaFleur.
