Rob McElhenney names Wrexham’s unsung hero as he jokingly admits to ‘problem’

Unsung Hero #UnsungHero

Wrexham co-owner and Hollywood star, Rob McElhenney, has named the club’s unsung hero following title-winning promotion to League Two as CEO Fleur Robinson. Former Burton Albion commercial director Robinson took up the post with the National League side in 2021.

She saw Burton Albion, who are owned by dad Ben Robinson, rise from the second tier of non-league to enjoy two years in the Championship, before dropping down a division to League One. Robinson is also a member of the FA Council, where she has helped draw attention towards the women’s game as well as mental health awareness and opportunities for young people.

Wrexham’s women’s team winning their league unbeaten, while also setting a ladies domestic attendance record, undoubtedly pleased Robinson as much as the men’s title-winning success. But after Wrexham’s goal of reclimbing into the football league was set in stone following a win over Boreham Wood at the weekend, Robinson has been named the unsung hero of the Wales-based club’s success by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star and co-owner McElhenney.

Quoting Robinson on Twitter, McElhenney said: “She doesn’t seek out the limelight but @fleurrobo is a hero in this story. If you enjoyed this run I hope you understand that it would not have happened without her. Please join me in showing her the love she deserves. THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING FLEUR.”

McElhenney is still on cloud nine following Wrexham’s promotion success, where they saw off a strong challenge from Notts County. In fact, the actor has jokingly admitted that he’s addicted to watching Wrexham videos.

“I have a problem,” McElhenney said. “I am addicted to watching @Wrexham_AFC videos. Please send help.”

County can still seal promotion to League Two alongside Wrexham but it’ll take a Play-Off win to do so. Like Wrexham, County incredibly cleared 100 points in the regular season.

But in a touch of class, McElhenney has encouraged Notts County locals to invest in next term’s season tickets. “This is an absolute bargain,” McElhenney tweeted. “I encourage anyone in the area to do this if you can. @Official_NCFC is one of the most exciting teams in sports.”
