‘Please God, just let this person get out and put their hands up’: What Akron officers told investigators about Jayland Walker’s last moments

AKRON, Ohio – Akron police officers told investigators that they believed Jayland Walker had a gun and was about to shoot them when he reached for his waistband as they chased him June 27 of last year.

Moments after Walker’s actions, eight officers fired 46 bullets into Walker, a 25-year-old Black man who, in fact, did not have a weapon on him. It was in his car.
