Officials with the Town of Bluffton said Monday that the town has begun installing about a quarter-mile of concrete and oyster shell sidewalks around the grassy area of Oscar Frazier Park.
Known as the “Field of Dreams”, town officials said the sidewalk will connect the pavilion and the Rotary Community Center and will give walkers, joggers, and bicyclists a sidewalk around the perimeter of the park.
The town said Savannah-based contractor APAC-Atlantic was awarded the $78,671 contract and the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
“Every year, the Town is able to add another feature to Oscar Frazier Park, one of the Town’s most frequently-visited parks,” Mayor Lisa Sulka said. “Town leaders are pleased to begin the sidewalk projects which will enable more people to use the field area for more activities and enhance the enjoyment of this amenity.”
The town said the sidewalk installation is the latest project in the park’s Master Plan.
The plan was developed two years ago and is a blueprint that guides park projects.
With the help of civic organizations including the Rotary Club of Bluffton and the leadership class of the Hilton Head-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce, town officials said they have added new playground equipment, synthetic turf, a pavilion with restrooms, a dog park, lighting, and landscaping.
During the installation process, town officials said the playground, pavilion and restrooms will remain open. However, sections of the field may be closed intermittently.
