Mason Plumlee and Bones Hyland had an altercation on the bench
The LA Clippers defeated the Phoenix Suns and earned themselves a spot in the NBA Playoffs, but it didn’t come without some drama.
At the end of the third quarter, Mason Plumlee and Bones Hyland found themselves in an altercation on the bench, and Norman Powell had to come in between them.
Somehow, the altercation worked out for the Clippers and they figured out a way to take the lead and win the game during the fourth quarter. Clippers head coach Ty Lue was asked about the fight after the game, and he gave a somewhat surprising answer.
“If you ain’t getting it right, fight then,” Lue said. “After that, we took off and played better. Maybe we should do it more often. They worked it out, everything is good.”
Andrew Greif of the LA Times also spoke to Mason Plumlee after the game, where it was revealed Plumlee was frustrated because the Clippers didn’t match up properly on a couple of possessions to end the third quarter. Plumlee then revealed that both he and Bones have moved on, and appreciated that he was able to have a heated conversation with his teammate.
After the dust settled, the Clippers emerged out of Phoenix with a victory and the prize of returning to the city again in the playoffs next week. The LA Clippers and Phoenix Suns face off in Game 1 of the first round on Sunday, April 16.
