D​amage is being reported in Little Rock, Arkansas, after a tornado emergency was declared.

T​he storms are part of an outbreak of severe thunderstorms taking aim at a wide area of the Midwest and South through tonight. This weather has prompted a rare ‘high risk’ forecast from the National Weather Service, including the threat for strong to violent tornadoes, damaging thunderstorm winds and hail.

There have also been several reports of hail across parts of Missouri, Iowa and Arkansas.

Students in the Pulaski County Special School District near Little Rock are being held in place due to a tornado warning.

“Our schools and offices are taking shelter now,” the district tweeted.

(3:07 p.m. ET) T​ornado Debris Spotted On Radar

D​ebris was spotted on radar at around 2:30 p.m. eastern time near Hot Springs, where tornado sirens blared at Oaklawn Park horse track.

If you live in the threatened area, you should have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings from the National Weather Service, including via smartphone and NOAA weather radio, that can also wake you up if severe weather happens while you’re asleep.

Plan now where to go to seek safe shelter if a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning is issued for your area.
