James said two doctors told him he should get season-ending surgery.
LeBron James made is long awaited return to the Lakers on Sunday but did so off the bench as his team slowly begins to integrate him back into the lineup. His return was spoiled with a loss against the Bulls but after the game, he dropped one of his best quotes yet when referencing himself in third person.
James, who said he tore a tendon in his right foot on Feb. 26 against the Mavericks, has missed the last 13 games and shared that two doctors said he should have season-ending surgery. He was then asked why he decided to not do the surgery and his response was pure gold.
“Because I went to the LeBron James of feet . . . and he told me I shouldn’t,” James said.
The reporters found the comment hilarious and James couldn’t help but laugh at himself. Once things got serious again, James said he wasn’t sure if he’d need surgery in the offseason.
“I don’t know. Right now, I don’t need it,” he said. “So we’ll see what happens. I’ll probably get another MRI at the end of the season and go from there.”
James finished his return game with 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists in his 30 minutes of action. Los Angeles lost 118–108 and it falls to 37–38 on the season.
