As President-elect Joe Biden celebrated on stage following his Saturday evening address, Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars” blasted while fireworks went off. It’s a song that holds a special significance for the Biden family, per CNN.
Anchor Dana Bash noted during the network’s coverage: “The president-elect talks so much of the soul of the country, and it’s one of his favorite phrases. But his personal soul was his son that passed away… The fact that Coldplay was playing there: A friend of the family texted me to say this was Beau’s favorite song.”
In fact, Coldplay’s Chris Martin sang at Beau Biden’s funeral after learning how much he loved the band.

Beau Biden died in 2015 at the age of 46 after a long battle with brain cancer. He served in the Delaware Army National Guard and was deployed to Iraq in 2008, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. Like his father, he also held political office, serving as Delaware’s attorney general.

The song resonated with some TV watchers, who were touched by the significance.
A Twitter account with the name Young Americans for Biden & Harris noted the significance of the Coldplay song and included pictures that showed the affection between the two Biden men.
Jessica Robertson noted that “Sky Full of Stars” was Beau Biden’s favorite song and that it was “Beyond bittersweet that it was the transition music into celebration tonight.”
User SA7AH humorously acknowledged the strong emotional pull of the Biden connection to the song: “no I’m not crying YOU’RE CRYING,” followed with three emojis with tears streaming down their faces.
