Running back D’Ernest Johnson is signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, signaling an end to his time with the Cleveland Browns.

Now former Cleveland Browns running back D’Ernest Johnson is moving on. Johnson is signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars, per ESPN. Cleveland had an interest in bringing Johnson back but he ends up in a new spot.

Johnson was always the odd man out in Cleveland unless an injury kept Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt off of the field. Johnson appeared in 64 games over four seasons with the Browns and ran for 738 rushing yards and three touchdowns during that time.

His best season came in 2020 when he had 534 yards on 100 carries. Johnson was an undrafted free agent out of South Florida and is 27 years old.

Now, in Jacksonville there should be more opportunities for Johnson behind Travis Etienne Jr. If Johnson has shown one thing in Cleveland, it’s that he is ready when called upon.

With Kareem Hunt still a free agent, there’s a slight chance the Browns bring him back. More likely, Cleveland is set to draft a running back and pair with Jerome Ford as their depth behind Chubb.

Johnson gets another contract in the NFL and should get a chance to showcase his talent on a more consistent level. It’s a win for him.
