WWE Extreme Rules 2020 Results: Sasha Banks And Bayley Hold All The Gold For Now

In an overbooked match, a sea of outside interference resulted in Bayley stealing a blinded (via green mist) referee t-shirt to count the pinfall. Bayley strong-armed the timekeeper to ring the bell as Banks’ music played.

Bayley and Sasha Banks have been the focal points of WWE programming in recent months throughout the empty arena era. The BFF duo once seemed to be on the fast track to a split-turned-rivalry, however WWE has opted to slow-play their eternal on-again; off-again dynamic as both women were dripped in gold headed into Extreme Rules.

With The Golden Role Models routinely appearing on all three brands of WWE television, Sasha Banks recently commented on their increased workload in an interview with Sports Illustrated (h/t Wrestling Inc):

“I used to wrestle five days a week,” said Banks. “It’s nothing new. Working three times a week is easy for me. If I need to work Raw, SmackDown, and NXT, then that’s what I’m going to do.

Banks and Bayley as top stars has ceded a mixed bag of results. Banks’ July 1 main event against Io Shirai on NXT led to WWE’s second consecutive victory over AEW following Night 2 of the Great American Bash. Banks took to Twitter to congratulate herself on the ratings win, referring to herself as “The Draw.”

NXT continued to keep the momentum going the following week with a Winner Take All match as Keith Lee defeated Adam Cole to become the brand’s first-ever double champion.

WWE was set up to possibly have Bayley and Sasha Banks benefit from a similar dynamic, with one duo accounting for all the championships in one division. With Raw and SmackDown viewership tanking at alarming rates, raising the stakes by having Bayley and Sasha Banks make good on their threat to take over WWE was among the few intriguing options to stimulate interest in a slumping product.

Though Bayley and Sasha Banks have all the gold now, Banks’ reign will likely be a temporary one given the tomfoolery involved.
