As AfroTech previously highlighted, owners of the National Football League (NFL) team, Dan and Tanya Snyder, are exploring “potential transactions” for the team, which could mean a potential sale or an open door for minority investors.

“Any potential transaction would have to be presented to the NFL Finance Committee for review and require an affirmative vote by three-quarters of the full membership,” League spokesperson Brian McCarthy said, according to 7 News.

Johnson may be showing interest according to an individual familiar with the matter, who has revealed he has joined an investment group led by Josh Harris, The Washington Post reports.

If true, this would be yet another reunion between Johnson and Harris as they had previously worked together to pursue the acquisition of the NFL’s Denver Broncos, although the effort was unsuccessful.

Johnson’s potential stake in the Washington Commanders team has not been disclosed.

Other interested parties who are rumored to have shared an interest in the team include Jeff Bezos and Jay-Z, who could be involved in a possible partnership, per People. This would be the second time the duo has allegedly worked together to purchase a team as they were also believed to be in talks to purchase the Denver Broncos.

Byron Allen also had his eyes set on securing team ownership in the NFL league. His name is currently being tossed around to bid on the Washington Commanders, as AfroTech previously mentioned.

Sports experts predict the team could be purchased within less than a year.

“It could move fairly fast,” said Lisa Delpy Neirotti, director of the master’s program in sports management at George Washington University, per 7 News.
