Newcastle United hope to keep pace in the race for a Champions League place in the English Premier League against Nottingham Forest on Friday.

On the surface, Newcastle looks to be a clear favorite over Nottingham–But not so fast.

The Magpies will travel to The City Stadium where the Tricky Trees await. However, Newcastle is looking looking for their first victory away from home in 2023, meanwhile, Nottingham has not lost at home since October.

Yes, a World Cup was sprinkled in between, but an impressive feat nonetheless.

Newcastle recently fell out of the top-four place in the Premier League table. A five-game winless streak did see the Magpies fall from third to sixth-place. But Newcastle will head to the Midlands with their heads up after a 2-1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. Former Atlanta FC midfielder Miguel Almirón came off the bench to score the game-winning goal for the Magpies with 10 minutes remaining. The victory brought Newcastle back into fifth place.

Nottingham did Newcastle no favors a week ago. A 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur helped Spurs retain a four-point cushion on the Magpies for a top-four position in the EPL table. In the loss, Forest was outplayed and scored their lone goal while already down by three. The loss dropped Nottingham down to 14th place, closer to a contentious relegation battle.

Adding insult to injury… was injury. Nottingham attackers Brennan Johnson (groin) and Chris Wood (thigh) both picked up knocks in the loss. Newcastle will be without midfielder Joelinton, who will serve the second of a two-game suspension.
