Celtic player ratings as Shane Duffy suffers another nightmare in Sparta Prague thrashing

Celtic suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Sparta Prague to leave them staring down the barrel of Europa League elimination.

Neil Lennon ‘s side made it one win in six as they were taken apart by the Czechs at Parkhead, with Lukas Julis helping himself to a hat-trick.

The visitors held a 2-0 lead at the break but Leigh Griffiths reduced the arrears in the second half.

Celtic couldn’t set up a grandstand finish though, with Julis grabbing his third of the evening before Ladislav Krejci made it four,

It was an embarrassing night for the Premiership champions and here’s how their players rated.

The keeper played his part in keeping Sparta at bay with several saves but there’s only so much one man can do when the defence in front of him is falling to pieces. 6

Jeremie Frimpong

Terrific going forward but far too often he goes AWOL when it comes to defensive duties. Constantly caught way too high up the pitch and made to pay. 4

Shane Duffy

Suffered another nightmare. He was caught at a corner, ended up turned for the second and made a mess of the third, at sea for the fourth. Looks out of form and devoid of confidence. 4

Far too casual at times and it was a slack ball out that gave Sparta their first chance and helped swing the momentum in their favour and was all over the shop at times. 4

Diego Laxalt

It’s hard not to feel sympathy for the full back. He’s busting a gut up and down the left flank and he’s being let down by players around him. 5

Scott Brown

Comfortable start then was anything but as Sparta’s youngsters ran rings around the Hoops. Eventually sacrificed after an hour as Celtic went for broke. 4

Callum McGregor

Celtic’s Mr Consistent doesn’t have many off nights but this was one of them. Couldn’t get going, passing was surprisingly off and among the guilty men for the second goal. 5

Ryan Christie

Struggled to put his stamp on the game before becoming more of an influence when Celtic were two down and chasing. A poor night by his standards. 5

Tom Rogic

Looked in the mood early on with a couple of neat passes and delightful touches. Faded badly until he popped up again with neat feet to tee up Griffiths to pull a goal back. 5

Should have found the net with a big chance at 1-0 that was similar to the one missed at the same stage against Rangers last month and toiled for most of the night. 5

Odsonne Edouard

Still not up to 100 percent but movement and hold up play was sharp, even if his finishing wasn’t quite there. Tired as game went on. 5

Substitutes

Leigh Griffiths

Produced a smart finish and looked busy when Celts were searching for a way back. 5

Hatem Elhamed

Slotted in after a change in formation but defence was all over the place. 2

Olivier Ntcham

Failed to make much of an impact as Celtic fell apart the end. 1

Albian Ajeti

Little chance to make a difference as the Hoops slumped in closing spell. 1
