Aaron Rodgers to Jets a done deal? Reporter who got it right last week says it’s happening

Aaron Rodgers said months ago he didn’t want to hold the Packers or anyone else “hostage” as he made a decision about his NFL future. But as the NFL free agency negotiating window opened Monday, Rodgers kept the Packers, Jets and everyone else waiting on a decision about his future.

No small deal when you’re trying to recruit a free agent and you can’t tell them who your quarterback is going to be this fall.

But the madness might be on the verge of ending. Finally.

Longtime television personality Trey Wingo, who last week first reported that Rodgers and the Jets were talking about a trade, said Monday afternoon that Rodgers is coming to the Jets.

Here’s what Wingo tweeted on the first day of free agency.

“Hearing Rodgers to the Jets is done. History about to repeat itself between New York and Green Bay. Time is indeed a flat circle”

It would be a massive deal for the Jets and the NFL if the future Hall-of-Fame quarterback followed Brett Favre from Green Bay to Florham Park 15 years later. And with the Jets stacked with young talent, they could be legitimate contenders in the AFC if things go their way.

Soon after Wingo’s words set Twitter ablaze, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport refuted the report, tweeting that no decision or deal has been made.

“I wish something had happened,” he wrote. “But nothing has happened.”

Meanwhile, on Sportscenter, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter said the Jets are “cautiously optimistic” on landing Rodgers but said no deal is done.

Only time will tell if Wingo is right. And even then, there’s still plenty more we must learn: like the terms of the trade. But after a stressful several days for Jets fans, this is the first sign that the resolution they’ve been hoping for is right around the corner.

Wingo kicked off a firestorm of Rodgers to the Jets speculation early Tuesday morning when he reported the Jets and Rodgers had conversations about on March 6. Less than 24 hours later, a Jets contingent flew to California for an all-day meeting with Rodgers.
