Angela Bassett Arrived at the 2023 Oscars Looking Like a Winner

Angela Bassett once again did the thing (sorry, refuse to stop) by showing up at the 2023 Oscars and looking spectacular in an ultra-violet purple dress by Jeremy Scott in a gorgeous pleated organza.

Angela is obviously nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and considering she already won the Golden Globe, her chances of winning seem pretty high.

If you missed Angela’s Globes speech, she paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman, saying, “We were surrounded each and every day by the light and spirit of Chadwick Boseman. We have joy in knowing that with this historic Black Panther series, it is a part of his legacy that he helped to lead us to. We showed the world what Black united leadership [looks like] beyond, behind and in front of the camera.”

She also spoke about her experience with the cast and crew, saying, “Weeping may come in the evening but joy comes in the morning. We embarked on this journey together with love. We mourned, we loved, we healed.”

Angela previously spoke to The New York Times about getting into character for Wakanda Forever, saying, “I want to know it in my sleep. I want to be so free that the lines are the least of it. Now it’s about human connection. I can concentrate on who I’m in the scene with, open up my heart and let them affect me. So anything can happen. And when Ryan wants me to try something different, sometimes I just cock my head and close my eyes and say, ‘Talk to me.’ It’s like when you have coffee and you get down to the grounds. There it is. Let me try that.”
