Bronte Schofield revealed she was forced to miss a lot of school as she spent much of her teenage years in ‘crippling pain’.

The Married At First Sight bride, 28, told 9Entertainment on Tuesday she spent ‘half her life in hospital’ believing she was going to die at the age of 16.

She said she was diagnosed with ‘pancreatitis, endometriosis and gastritis all at the same time’ and was ‘ripping the sheets apart’ because she was in so much pain.

‘I honestly thought, laying in that hospital bed… I was looking at my mum, and I was ripping the sheets apart saying, “I’m going to die,”‘ she said.

‘My parents had to leave the room because my mum was so hysterical. It was one of those moments in my life where I felt, life really is so short.’

Bronte went on to say her illness took a toll on her self-esteem as well as her physical health as she found it difficult to fit in with her peers after missing so much school.

‘I was in hospital for so long, and it took a massive toll on my self-esteem and my confidence but I never changed who I am,’ she said.

‘I got very bulled in school – girls would make a lot of fun of me because of my illness.’

Pancreatitis occurs when digestive enzymes become activated while still in the pancreas and cause inflammation, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Meanwhile, gastritis is a general term for several conditions which cause inflammation of the stomach lining.

Endometriosis is when the uterus lining grows in other parts of the body, causing pain and sometimes infertility.

It comes after Bronte was forced to miss the MAFS commitment ceremony last week due to her endometriosis symptoms.

Her on-screen husband Harrison Boon became emotional as he revealed Bronte was in too much pain to take part in filming that day.

However, the builder, 32, came off as slightly awkward as he spoke of the women’s health issue that was clearly beyond his personal experience.

The other brides were shown laughing at Harrison as he explained his wife was in ‘a lot of pain’, so he had no choice but to fly solo for the ceremony.
