The Pittsburgh Steelers have a new option at inside linebacker.

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers will be looking at inside linebacker help on the free agency market, and Eric Kendricks has now joined the conversation as a potential signing.

The former All-Pro has spent his entire career with the Minnesota Vikings, but after turning 31 years old, the team has decided to clear cap space by releasing him. Now, he’s looking for a new team, and the Steelers make sense.

Kendrick’s last deal handed him $10 million per season on average. At 31, it’s hard to imagine he won’t take a pay cut, meaning the Steelers could sign him for roughly $7-8 million this offseason. The perfect money point for Pittsburgh.

At the same time, the Steelers have their eyes on an inside linebacker in the NFL Draft, but with the prospects coming up needing some work, Kendricks is a great option for a bridge player.

The Steelers will want to utilize their rookie at a number of positions, and with Mark Robinson developing as well, adding Kendricks to the mix makes sense for Pittsburgh.

Kendrick and Myles Jack could man the starting lineup with Robinson and a rookie filling the depth at inside linebacker. And with a cheap price tag, the former Viking seems like a quality fit for the Steelers.
