Casemiro once again showed why Manchester United fans love him so much, and it should come as no surprise that he did it in a final.

The Brazilian scored his fifth goal for the club to help United win the Carabao Cup, the opener coming against the run of play, but turning the final on its head to set his side on course for victory against Newcastle.

And he showed his passion soon when winning a goal kick

Nodding in from a sublime Luke Shaw free kick, Casemiro had United ahead, a position they never looked like surrendering for the remaining hour of the match.

The goal added more weight to an already settled debate about Casemiro’s £60million signing from Real Madrid, with some previously questioning the wages and length of contract for a 30-year-old.

But all of that was forgotten as he once again pulled on fans’ heartstrings with an opener and celebration that showed he knows exactly what he’s doing in such a big game.

Before half time with the score 2-0, he then won a goal kick after taking one for the team when Joelinton barged into him, and geed up the travelling fans at Wembley, as well as his thrilled teammates.

It was another fine moment in his United career, and one Gary Neville summed up well, saying: “Look at him. Both the Manchester United players and fans responding to him.

“He’s giving it some. I had doubts when he came, the price tag huge, the wages enormous, the contract too long, but the impact he’s had on the club…”

Now it’s not just the impact he’s had on the club on the pitch, but on their trophy cabinet back at Old Trafford.

The Carabao Cup is the club’s first piece of silverware in almost six years since the 2017 Europa League, a barren run not only unheard of for United, but Casemiro too.

The former Real Madrid man now has 23 winners’ medals throughout his career which included stints at Porto and Sao Paulo.

A number of those are league titles, but when it comes to cup finals, his record is staggering.

Casemiro’s final record is astonishing

The Carabao Cup final was the 20th of Casemiro’s career, 17 of which he won, with three goals and one assist.

That includes four Champions League finals (he’s won five titles but didn’t play in one final) a Copa America with Brazil, and numerous other honours.

At Madrid, excluding one-off finals such as Super Cups, Casemiro’s record is even better, with eight wins from eight in the Champions League, Club World Cup, and Copa del Rey.

Erik ten Hag certainly knew what he was doing when he landed the superstar midfielder, and if he can get his team to another final, the point will likely be hammered home once again.
