VAR spots subtle foul from Ben White on Danny Ward to rule out Leandro Trossard’s screamer for Arsenal against Leicester

Leandro Trossard’s stunning goal was ruled out by VAR for a foul on Danny Ward in Arsenal’s 1-0 win at Leicester.

The Belgian thought he gave the Gunners the lead against the Foxes with a superb strike from the edge of the area.

But VAR spotted an infringement from White and the goal did not stand

However, Arsenal’s celebrations were short lived as VAR came to the rescue for the hosts.

On the replays, Gunners defender Ben White could be seen holding the hand of goalkeeper Ward when the preceding corner was crossed in.

Referee Craig Pawson checked the monitor and spotted the infringement from the England international before ruling out the goal.

Some felt Leicester got away with the decision, as talkSPORT reporter Geoff Peters said: “I’m struggling to understand that, I’m sure we’ll get communication from the authorities.”

Adrian Durham agreed, replying: “We need communication on that one because we’ve watched it three or four times and I cannot see a foul, nothing significant.

“There’s physical contact but it’s a corner, there’s going to be physical contact. I couldn’t see a foul from anywhere.

“It says a White foul and I honestly cannot see… I can’t see anything really, can you something there?”

Peters then added: “I can’t see what was wrong with that. It was a fantastic hit, a terrific goal, it’s a very soft decision.”

However, Arsenal eventually took the lead and won the match thanks to Gabriel Martinelli’s finish just moments after the break.
