Fans around the world are mourning the death of Sean Connery.
The actor’s son Jason told the Associated Press on Saturday that his father died peacefully in his sleep overnight in the Bahamas where he lived. He added that Connery had been “unwell for some time.”
The actor was born as Thomas Sean Connery on Aug. 25, 1930, in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, Scotland. He decided to become an actor after being discharged from the Royal Navy because of medical problems.
Connery was the first James Bond, playing the role of the suave British superspy in a total of seven films. He won an Oscar in 1988 for his performance in The Untouchables as well as two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.
