Canada Soccer adds Mathieu Chamberland as new Chief Operating Officer

Canada Soccer have hired Mathieu Chamberland as the organisation’s new Chief Operating Officer beginning on 13 March 2023. Mr. Chamberland joins Canada Soccer with a focus on membership engagement and administration. He joins Canada Soccer after spending the last five years in a leadership position as the General Director at Soccer Québec (Fédération de soccer du Québec).

“Chamberland is one of the brightest young sports leaders in our sport and he has overseen the growth and development of Soccer Québec over the past five years to become one of the top provincial governing bodies in the country,” said Earl Cochrane, Canada Soccer General Secretary. “He is a thoughtful, process-driven administrator who is focused on both the development of our sport as well as the people in our sport.”

I would like to thank Soccer Québec, which helped me grow professionally, and our General Secretary, Earl Cochrane, for the confidence shown in the process.”

The Chief Operating Officer, who will report directly to the Canada Soccer General Secretary, will oversee Membership Relations, Events and Competitions as well as Administration and Compliance. He will work closely with the executive leadership team in Canada Soccer’s engagement with its Membership, including Leagues, Professional Clubs as well as Provincial and Territorial Member Associations.

In his new role, Chamberland will be based in the nation’s capital at Ottawa’s Canada Soccer House where he will also lead staff operations, administration and infrastructure strategy. He will provide strategic leadership to ensure effective delivery of serices and efficient administration support of the organisation’s objectives.

Chamberland served as the General Director at Québec Soccer from 2018 to 2022, in charge of the organisation’s overall operations and delivery of their strategic plan while overseeing financial resources, human resources, and governance. Before 2018, he previously worked in the organisation’s referee department starting in 2012 and was Québec Soccer’s Director of Refereeing from 2014 to 2017. Chamberland earned his degree in Business Administration and Management from the Université du Québec à Montréal and his Graduate Diploma in Sport Management from HEC Montréal.
