With Steph Curry out for the next few weeks, the Warriors need their other stars to step up in a big way.

Klay Thompson got the memo.

The Warriors’ shooting guard came out firing against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night at Chase Center, dropping in 27 points in the first half to pace Golden State to a seven-point halftime lead.

Thompson got things start with 18 points in the first quarter.

Thompson finished the opening quarter 7 of 10 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range, and his hot hand carried over in the second quarter as he made his first two shots — both 3-pointers — after checking back into the game.

Thompson finished the second quarter by making another 3-pointer, giving him his season high for points in a quarter with 27, surpassing the 26 his scored in the first half against the Houston Rockets on Nov. 20, 2022.

The 18-point first quarter is the second most Thompson has scored in a period this season behind 20 in the first quarter against the Rockets on Nov. 20. He now has six quarters this season with at least 15 points and 22 with at least 10 points.

Thompson is known for catching fire and going on some of the most epic scoring binges in NBA history.

As the Warriors try to weather the storm without Curry, who is out with a lower left leg injury, they are going to need Thompson, Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole to pick up the scoring load.

So far so good for Thompson.
