A 43-point blowout loss against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday night has at least one prominent analyst concerned about the state of the Brooklyn Nets.

Appearing on First Take, ESPN’s Jay Williams said he is “extremely concerned” about the Nets and hopes to see general manager Sean Marks get aggressive to help add some size to this roster.

“I don’t know what Sean Marks is doing,” Williams said.

Wednesday’s loss to the Celtics dropped the Nets to 4-7 in their past 11 games without Kevin Durant. It was the second time they have lost a game by at least 30 points this season after a 153-121 defeat to the Sacramento Kings on Nov. 15.

Williams did point out that Durant wasn’t playing, but he also expressed concern about the vague description of “knee soreness” that head coach Jacque Vaughn gave about Ben Simmons’ absence from the past three games.

“Will he be there when it matters the most,” Williams asked about Simmons. The ESPN analyst also noted there have been times when Durant won’t even look at Simmons when he comes to the bench.

We almost have to accept this is what the Nets are going to be, at least this version of them. We saw their peak with Durant and Kyrie Irving when they rattled off 12 consecutive wins from Dec. 7 through Jan. 2, but they’ve otherwise been a very inconsistent team.

Marks might have an ace up his sleeve heading into the Feb. 9 trade deadline that will give them more size at center to clog up the paint.

Unless anything happens over the next week, though, the Nets are going to be in a holding pattern until Durant returns to the court.
