Player grades: Cam Thomas scores 44 points in 23-point comeback win over the Wizards

Cam Thomas #CamThomas

The Brooklyn Nets welcomed the Washington Wizards to Barclays Center on Saturday and won 125-123. Brooklyn has swept the regular-season series between the two teams at 4-0.

For the Nets, Cam Thomas had 44 points and five assists off the bench while Edmond Sumner had 29 points and three assists. Nic Claxton had 15 points and three blocks and Patty Mills had 13 points.

For the Wizards, Kristaps Porzingis had 38 points and five rebounds before fouling out in the fourth quarter while Deni Avdija had 23 points and four steals off the bench. Monte Morris had 18 points and Corey Kispert had 15 points.

The Brooklyn Nets looked lifeless in the first half as it looks like Kyrie Irving’s trade request has taken at least some of the team’s energy. The Nets allowed Kristaps Porzingis to score 20 points on just nine shots in the first 24 minutes.

The second half was a different story for both teams as Brooklyn won the second half 70-50. That massive comeback was because of Cam Thomas and Edmond Sumner reaching career-highs in scoring and Nic Claxton being the stabilizing force for Brooklyn like he has been all season.

Here are your Nets player grades:

Edmond Sumner: A+

Sumner was awesome in this game. He was aggressive from the opening tip despite not being able to hit his threes with good efficiency. He made things happen driving to the rim and in the third quarter, Sumner went off on both ends of the floor. He did a wonderful job stepping in for Kyrie Irving.

Seth Curry: Incomplete

Curry did a good job of scoring the basketball during his time on the floor. He was lights out from three and he made some good plays on defense. However, he left the game in the third quarter with left adductor tightness and did not return.

Joe Harris: C-

Harris did not do much in this game as he struggled shooting the ball. His three-ball was not falling in this one and he was unable to make anything happen on any spot on the floor. Harris did a decent job on the glass and made some nice passes to set up his teammates. Harris played better defense in this one than he usually does.

Royce O’Neale: B+

O’Neale had a good game against the Wizards. He was effective in scoring the ball from behind the three-point line and at the rim. He did a great job helping on the glass and as he has done all season, O’Neale did a wonderful job of finding his teammates for open shots. He was great on the defensive end as it was his own block party for once.

Nic Claxton: A

Claxton was great in this game for the Nets. He did not shoot much in this one, but he was efficient with his scoring thanks to the amount of free-throws he shot from being aggressive and going at Kristaps Porzingis. He was awesome on the boards and he had more than a few nice passes to set up his teammates for easy buckets. Claxton was awesome on the defensive end and he was critical to Brooklyn’s comeback in the second half.

Patty Mills: C+

Mills was solid for the Nets in this contest. While he did not shoot well from the field, he did make timely shots during the Nets’ comeback from a 23-point deficit. He did a good job of helping out on the glass and his defense was passable.

Day’Ron Sharpe: F

Sharpe had a game to forget against the Wizards. He wasn’t able to get anything going on the offensive end and he didn’t establish a presence on the glass. Also, he had some real trouble defending in this game as he couldn’t stay out of foul trouble.

Cam Thomas: A+

Cam Thomas was electric in this one. Seemingly from the opening tip, Thomas couldn’t miss from any area of the floor. He was driving to the rim with force and either drew free-throws or made tough finishes. Thomas also was unconscious from three-point land. Not only was Thomas scoring at an elite level, he was also rebounding well and was giving out some impressive dishes too.

Yuta Watanabe: C-

Watanabe did not do much in this game as he did not have anything going on the offensive end in this one. Other than doing a good job on the glass, Watanabe did not provide value anywhere else.

Markieff Morris: Incomplete

Morris did not get much time in the first half, but during that span, he wasn’t able to make anything happen on either end of the floor. He did leave the game in the third quarter because of left knee soreness.
