Jurgen Klopp Offers Positive Injury Update As Van Dijk & Jota Close In On Return

Klopp #Klopp

The Liverpool boss had good news for Reds fans on Friday.

Ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Wolves on Saturday, manager Jurgen Klopp provided a positive update regarding the injured players in his squad.

The Reds have been plagued by injury problems since pre-season and that has coincided with a downturn in the team’s performances as they struggle to reach the heights of the previous campaign.

There was a glimmer of hope that the situation could be easing on Friday however, when Klopp provided an update to the media (via Liverpoolfc.com) on those who have been missing over recent weeks and months.

Diogo Jota

“The boys are training, Diogo Jota had a full session with the team this week but then the next day had again a rehab session, not because of the session the day before, it was just part of the plan. I think he will be back in normal training next week.”

Roberto Firmino / Luis Diaz

“Bobby is getting closer obviously, very good. Luis is running now, it will take a few weeks still but he is now out on the pitch as well running, which is really good.”

Virgil van Dijk

“Virgil is getting closer, but not ready for the [Wolves] game obviously. Parts of training, I think, next week as well for Virgil.”

The news wasn’t as positive about Ibrahima Konate however after he picked up a muscle injury in the defeat at Brighton at the weekend.

“Ibou has a muscle injury, Again he didn’t think it was massive, it happened in the game, I asked him after the game, ‘Are you OK?’ and he said, ‘Yeah, I’m OK.’ After the game [he had] treatment, scan, bam, out.”

Liverpool’s season has been a disappointing one so far but there is still the opportunity to salvage something from it, and with big players returning, Klopp’s Reds should not yet be written off just yet.
