HGTV Fans Claim Christina Anstead Is the Reason They Don’t Watch ‘Flip or Flop’

Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead went through a high-profile divorce after they announced their separation in 2016. The exes have since continued to work together on Flip or Flop, but some fans have spoken their minds about their distaste toward Christina — and even consider her the main reason they no longer watch the show.

When Flip or Flop first premiered more than seven years ago, fans were instantly interested in the show. A young California couple remodeling homes in one of the most expensive areas in the country had fans tuning in week after week. That was, until 2016, when things became far more interesting.

Tarek and Christina announced their separation in 2016, but they vowed to continue working together. And after that, fans couldn’t help but watch to see how the dynamic shifted between the two. For the most part, things remained the same. Christina moved on quickly, and though she started a new life with Ant Anstead less than two years later (she and Ant have since separated), she and Tarek continued to work amicably.

Some HGTV fans say they don’t watch the show because of Christina

The show’s ninth season recently premiered, and Tarek and Christina both reflected on how far they’ve come since they started on the small screen so many years ago. Fans have grown to enjoy their dynamic, but some who watch HGTV can’t stand the show — and it’s all because of Christina.

“I have zero clue why HGTV thinks that she is marketable. She should be on the Real Housewives instead of still skating on Tarek’s coattails,” one user wrote on Reddit. “Tarek always seemed so down to earth while Christina was annoying as all get out. Episodes of Flip or Flop without her were instant faves,” another person commented.

In a separate Reddit thread, fans criticized the show as a whole and questioned how it has run for so long. “I like most of the shows on HGTV except this one. One of the reasons is neither of them have the presence and personality needed for TV,” one user wrote. “Tarek seems like he can’t stand her, and she just smiles and agrees to keep the peace. So awkward,” another person added.

Despite the hate on Christina, some fans came forward to defend her in the threads. “So much hate! I actually like her,” someone wrote. “How many haters are kicking Christina when she’s already on the ground? … We as women need to support one another; I have been shocked on this site how much anger is coming out,” someone else wrote.

Fans have rallied around Christina after she announced her separation from Ant Anstead. Though there was plenty of criticism, her fans reminded her to “do you” and not pay attention to the “haters.” Christina opened up in an Instagram post about her decision, and her biggest fans have continued to offer their support.
