Another CNY child lost too soon: Ava Wood, a ninth-grader at Durgee Junior High School in Baldwinsville, was popular, social and had a tight circle of friends. She made the honor roll, and she had a natural ability at track and soccer. Wood, 14, was found dead on Friday; police said she was shot and killed by her father, who then killed himself in an apparent murder-suicide. News of Ava’s death rocked the Baldwinsville community.

Baldwinsville school superintendent’s resignation part of proposed settlement: Baldwinsville schools Superintendent Jason D. Thomson would resign effective June 30 under a proposed settlement the school board is scheduled to consider tonight. Thomson was charged with driving while intoxicated after crowd-surfing with students at a school football game in October, and pleaded guilty in court in December to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired. Here’s what is known about the proposed settlement.

After 40 years on the same corner, pizza maker says “it’s time for me to go”: For the past 40 years, Mark Hordies has twirled the homemade dough and shredded his own mozzarella at Pizzaz Pizza, his family-owned shop in Syracuse’s Valley neighborhood. His ingredients have remained the same since he slipped his first pizza in the oven. He’ll serve his final pizza next week. “It’s time for me to go,” Hordies said. “I’m old and tired, and this is a good time to call it a day.”
