Roundup: Wheeler sets Watkins Memorial’s steals mark

Cameryn Wheeler’s 19 points, eight assists and seven steals Tuesday sent the Watkins Memorial girls basketball team to a 71-32 victory at Columbus Academy.

Wheeler broke the single-season steals record for the Warriors (11-5). Kalleigh Rennie added 16 points, Rilyn Warner 14 and Ella Perry 10.

GCA wins at home

Granville Christian held visiting Northside Christian to seven first-half points in a 42-33 victory in Mid-Ohio Christian Athletic League play.

Ella Rhoads buried a trio of 3-pointers and led the Lions (8-5, 5-2) with 16 points. Natalia Locke added 11 points and Brianna Hubbard six.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Watkins pulls away

Ethan Ryan led Watkins Memorial to a 19-10 edge in the fourth quarter to earn a 60-51 victory against visiting Utica in Licking County League play.

Ryan totaled 13 of his team-high 20 points during the final eight minutes. Jude Wise added 10 points, Sam Johnson nine and Cole Massie seven for the Warriors (7-6, 3-5).

Roman Gamble led Utica (10-4, 5-3) with 20 points. Trenton Collins and Brody McDaniel added nine points apiece.

Mallernee fuels Northridge

Carter Mallernee scored 11 of his game-high 31 points in the fourth quarter to put away Northridge’s 55-43 victory at Licking Valley in LCL play.

Ian Travis added 11 points for the Vikings (10-3, 8-1), who had an 18-8 edge during the final eight minutes to extend their Cardinal Division lead to two games.

Kam Walker led the Panthers (6-8, 4-4) with 19 points. Jacob Curry and Gunner Bowman added seven points apiece.

Becker leads Granville

Jase Becker’s 19 points fueled Granville in a 61-33 victory against visiting Lakewood in LCL play.

Colt Shaw added 10 points, Dylan Niedermeyer nine and Cayden Strasser seven for the Blue Aces (9-6, 7-1), who maintained a two-game lead in the Buckeye Division.

Colton Ferry led the Lancers (1-14, 0-8) with nine points. Adam Crawford added a pair of 3-pointers for six points.

Heights beats NC

Toure Young’s 14 points led 11 Licking Heights scorers in a 58-43 victory against visiting Newark Catholic in LCL play.

Nate Lovinsky added 11 points and Kison Coates-Edmondson eight for the Hornets (7-9, 5-3).

Eli Morris led the Green Wave (2-11, 1-8) with 17 points. Braylon Bates added 10 points.

GCA drops home game

Andrew Benvie’s 16 points led Granville Christian in a 66-36 loss to visiting Northside Christian in MOCAL play.

Zac Leija added eight points and Bentley Johnson seven for the Lions (3-10, 2-5).

BOWLING

Newark beats Teays

Jade Gabor’s high game of 205 and series of 386 led Newark to a victory against Teays Valley, 1,915-1,450.

Makayla Adams added a high game of 171 and series of 337, Taylor Enright a high game of 170, Nadia Liesen 165 and Andy Hupp 160 for the Wildcats.
