The club captain is on the bench for Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash with Aberdeen. The champions’ performance against Milan in the Europa League on Thursday did seem to improve when Brown was taken off. Lennon, however, insisted it was merely a case of rotating his midfield cast.

The former Rangers striker feels there’s more to it as he questioned why Brown would be rested when he recently had a fortnight’s break from first-team action.

He said on Sky Sports when asked about it by host Eilidh Barbour: “Not buying it, not buying it. I’m not trying to be controversial. Brown was rested from the start against St Johnstone, then he had two weeks off for the international break, then he’s played two games and now he’s being rested again? I don’t think so.”
