San Diego State will be represented by wide receiver Jesse Matthews and linebacker Caden McDonald in Saturday’s Hula Bowl, a senior all-star game being played at the University of Central Florida’s FBC Mortgage Stadium.

The Hula Bowl, which was moved from Honolulu to Orlando, Fla., two years ago when Hawaii’s Aloha Stadium was condemned, will be televised by CBS Sports Network. Kickoff is 9 a.m. PT.

Matthews and McDonald are among nine players participating from Mountain West teams. San Jose State is the only other MW school with two players — wide receiver Elijah Cooks and cornerback Nehemiah Shelton — in the game.

They will be joined by some of the MW’s top running backs — Fresno State’s Jordan Mims, Nevada’s Toa Taua, Utah State’s Calvin Tyler Jr. Wyoming offensive lineman Eric Abojei and UNLV linebacker Austin Ajiake also accepted invitations to the game.

Matthews declared for the 2023 NFL Draft two weeks ago after an Aztecs career in which he finished eighth in school history in receptions (174), 13th in receiving yards (2,109) and tied for 14th in receiving touchdowns (15).

McDonald was a three-time first-team all-Mountain West selection for SDSU who also is a budding entrepreneur. He turned getting a tooth knocked out in a 2021 game against Utah into a brand — “Toothless Cowboy” — and merchandise business.

Former SDSU cornerback Tayler Hawkins was defensive MVP of last year’s game after returning an interception 44 yards for a touchdown.
